As per my experience,There are not much possibility to generate lead from directory submission or Bookmarking.You can generate link from google.You have to put extra effort for getting ranking in first page.You also can do freelancing from different freelancing sites.

SEO is good for promoting your website and increasing traffic but for fulfilling this purpose you will first have to work on the on page optimization rather than getting ahead in off page optimization. Work on your website first and then work on off page optimization via link building the most popular method.
